Department head of Azerbaijanâ€™s National Security Ministry: â€œThe occupation of the Azerbaijani territories is a source of threat to energy securityâ€

Victoria Dementyeva – APA. “Azerbaijan’s Ministry of National Security is ready to cooperate with all agencies, including international organizations in the field of energy security,” said Head of the energy infrastructure protection department of the Ministry of National Security Javad Tinayev addressing the conference “Cooperative approach to energy security: View from NATO and beyond” in Baku, APA reports.

Tinayev drew attention to the risks related with attempts of a number of terrorist organizations to interfere in the energy infrastructure: “Such attempts have been prevented in time by the Ministry of National Security.”

Noting the presence of conflicts and separatist forces in the South Caucasus region, Tinayev said that the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories is also a source of threat:

“A part of the borders are uncontrolled, this paves the way for the activity of terrorist organizations. Moreover, some of the pipelines constructed in the direction of the West are located near the line of contact of the troops. This is one of the threats,” he said.

Touching on the energy security in the aquatic area, Tinayev said undetermined legal status of the Caspian Sea has a negative impact on Azerbaijan’s efforts in this field.
