Baku hosts round table on “Sustainable development and ecological civilization”

APA reports that about 80 participants from different countries are discussing the issues of sustainable development and the current environmental challenges at the round table.

Addressing the round table, former PACE President Rene van der Linden stressed the importance of timely provision of humanitarian aid to global sustainable development. According to him, 54 million people suffered from conflicts around the world in 2012. Only in Syria, 4 million people were victims of a humanitarian disaster.

Angelo Riccaboni, Rector, University of Siena, Italy presented a report on the achievements of countries in the Millennium Development Goals, including poverty.

In his speech, Chairman of the Foundation for the Protection of Nature, German Professor Michael Succow informed about the projects implemented by the foundation in Azerbaijan. The chairman noted that he participated in a program aimed at supporting the creation of national parks and reserves in Azerbaijan: “Azerbaijan has the best program for the conservation of nature among the former Soviet republics. This program can be an example for other countries.”
