Azerbaijani Parliament hosts meetings with members of Arizona Senate and House of Representatives

Baku – APA. Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, Energy Environment Valeh Alasgarov has today met with the members of Arizona Senate and House of Representatives in Azerbaijan, Parliament’s press service told APA.

Valeh Alasgarov said that Azerbaijan-U.S. relations are at a high level, relations between the two countries are developing successfully in all fields and Azerbaijan has close relations with various states of the U.S. Vice-Speaker informed the guests about economic reforms implemented in the country, oil strategy, alternative energy sources and development of non-oil sector.

It was also noted that Azerbaijan became the leader in the region for economic development, state programs are being implemented in several spheres, including education and culture. Currently, more than 2000 young people are studying in foreign countries at the expense of the state. He said that Azerbaijan needs financial support of no other country, but the aggressive policy of Armenia and occupation of more than 20% of Azerbaijani territories impedes this development.

The questions of the delegation head John McComish, Adam Driggs, Don Shooter, Rick Gray were answered, discussions were held on the relations between Azerbaijan and the state of Arizona in various spheres, prospects of interparliamentary relations, the sides underlined the importance of mutual visits.

The same day the guests from the US met with the members of the working group on Azerbaijan-US interparliamentary relations. Speaking about the high-level bilateral relations, head of the working group Samad Seyidov said the US is an important state for Azerbaijan that strongly supports Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and just voice. Azerbaijan always supports the US, especially in fight against terrorism.

Samad Seyidov said Azerbaijan is a multinational and tolerant country. Azerbaijan's significant role in the South Caucasus was underlined during the meeting. The sides exchanged views on the issues of mutual interest, the guests' questions were answered.
