Turkish Ambassador recalls July 15 events and ongoing fight against FETO
Turkish Ambassador Birol Akgün recalled the events of that day and stated that 251 people were martyred, and more than 2,000 Turkish citizens were injured and became veterans: “This day is historic. July 15 – Democracy and National Unity Day – was a very important turning point in Türkiye's history. It is very important that we pass on this great struggle to future generations. The heroes of July 15, at the cost of their lives, once again clearly demonstrated that the Turkish nation will never give up its unity and solidarity, no matter what. As members of a nation that has always lived freely, we showed the whole world our commitment to the values we hold dear. Türkiye has been fighting the FETO terrorist organization for 9 years. FETO continues its activities beyond Türkiye's borders. Our struggle will continue until the last terrorist lays down their arms.”
The ambassador recalled the call of support from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the July 15 coup attempt.

Azerbaijan and Türkiye have always been by each other’s side, and will continue to be so. The Shusha Declaration, signed in 2021, has laid the foundation for deepening and expanding allied relations.”

MP Ahliman Amiraslanov emphasizes unity and successful cooperation between parliaments
Speaking at the commemoration event, MP and head of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye interparliamentary working group, Ahliman Amiraslanov, stated that July 15 was both a great day of trial for brotherly Türkiye and a victory written in golden letters: “The unity between Erdoğan and the people stopped this coup attempt. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was the first to call Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to express Azerbaijan’s support for Türkiye. Brotherly Türkiye emerged from this trial with honor. Today, Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations are at their highest peak. I am fortunate to have participated in the signing ceremony of the Shusha Declaration. Currently, there are very extensive ties between our parliaments. We are working to align our laws and legislative acts with each other. Recent news from Türkiye about terrorists laying down arms makes us all happy. We are confident this process will end successfully. Undoubtedly, there are forces both inside and outside Türkiye that do not want terrorism to end.”
