Azerbaijan’s embassy in the US told APA congressman said that on the night of January 20, the Soviet army used weapons against peaceful demonstrators under the pretext of restoring public order to suppress the movement for the independence of the Azerbaijani people. He underlined that the happenings on January 20, 1990 encouraged the Azerbaijani people to regain their independence after 70 years.
In his statement, congressman Green noted the US and Azerbaijan have close and important relations based on trust and mutual support.
