According to the document, the current legislation on trafficking in persons in Azerbaijan covers all forms of exploitation indicated in the UN Trafficking Protocol. According to the statistics submitted by the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, in 2008-2010 the facts of human trafficking decreased in the country. A significant number of victims of traffiking are again women.
In 2007, 89 facts of women trafficking and 2 facts of children trafficking were revealed in the country. In 2008, these figures were 74 and 4, in 2009 – 76 and 4, in 2011 – 31 and 3.
A significant part of those, who were convicted of this crime are women. 64 women were sentenced in 2007, 90 – in 2008, 68 – in 2009 and 38 – in 2010.
