The diplomat noted that according to the 9th paragraph of the Convention, the states may close their airspace if it is necessary: “Using its right of sovereignty, Azerbaijan closed its airspace over the occupied territories in 1993. This means that all the countries, which supported the Convention, are obliged to respect the right of Azerbaijan.”
Abdullayev noted that Azerbaijan will strengthen legal activities towards application of the Chicago Convention: “Armenia’s efforts to open Khojaly airport are contrary to the international norms. This airspace belongs to Azerbaijan and its use by Armenia is impossible.”
