Moscow. Farid Akbarov - APA. “Russia has already turned over the page of “Gabala radar station”, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, retired Colonel Igor Korotchenko said in his interview to APA’s Moscow correspondent.

He said it is not planned to continue talks on Gabala radar station.

“Russia has passed a decision to abandon this station. The missile warning system of the station has already been turned off,” he said.

Korotchenko said Russia had known in advance that the negotiations on Gabala RL would not be completed positively: “Therefore, Armavir RLS has been set at ready. The Armavir RLS had been already tested since Gabala radar station’s exploitation was suspended. After being sure that this station will cope with the function entrusted to Gabala station, Russia announced the suspension of the negotiations. We were interested in continuing the exploitation of Gabala RLS more than 15 years. We would provide the station with modern techniques during these years. Armavir station is technically strong, no failure is supposed there.”

The Russian expert said that the suspension of Gabala station’s exploitation would not have impact on the relations between the two countries: “To my mind, it will not have impact on the interstate relations, because Russia wants to develop the relations with Azerbaijan and will develop… Russia is a northern neighbor of Azerbaijan. We had always good and friendly relations and Russia will continue these relations. But I want to note something that Russia has left Gabala radar station, as negotiations have not given positive results.”
