Baku. Victoria Dementeva – APA. According to the first 11 months of last year, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia increased by 23.3 percent and reached a record high - $3.2 billion, said Russia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin addressing the Caspian-European Integration Business Club (CEIBC), APA reports.

The ambassador noted that Russia is the second largest trade partner of Azerbaijan, after Turkey, at the same time Azerbaijan ranks fourth or fifth in the list of trade partners.

According to the diplomat, the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Russia, which has 600 000 – 3 million members, has a great role in strengthening relations between the two countries. According to the Central Bank of Russia, Azerbaijan leaves behind the other CIS countries for the volume of remittance from this country last year. On average $617 is transferred in each remittance from Russia. The two countries operate 88 flights and 10 trains per week.

Asked about Azerbaijan’s possible admission to the Customs Union and Eurasian Community, Ambassador said Russia has concrete plans regarding the Eurasian Economic Community, but no one makes Azerbaijan join these unions.

“If Azerbaijan wants to develop the bilateral relations with CIS members, we will understand it. Azerbaijan has the right to cooperate with other countries as it wishes,” he said.
