Baku. Victoria Dementyeva - APA. The ceremony dedicated to the European Union’s receiving the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize has been held in Baku. Head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia said the establishment of peace and democracy is a daily work requiring great efforts, APA reports. The ambassador mentioned that Europe suffered from the terrible wars before the EU was founded: “The European Union united the European countries around peace, stability and democracy efforts."
Touching on the situation in the South Caucasus, the diplomat said that the EU is interested in peaceful solutions of the conflicts in the region: “I hope that the award will be an inspiring factor for peace-building in the South Caucasus, achievement of stability and resolution of the conflicts.”
Following the French Ambassador Pascal Meunier’s speech at the event, the participants watched live Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony in Oslo.
