PACE winter session starts today

Baku. Victoria Dementeva – APA. The winter session of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) starts in Strasbourg today. APA reports that the session agenda includes election of the president and vice-presidents of the Assembly, the situation in Kosovo, the activities of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the report “Georgia and Russia: the humanitarian situation in the conflict- and war-affected areas”, the state of media freedom in Europe, Gender equality and trafficking of migrant workers for forced labour.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle, and Italian Justice Minister Paola Severinon will make a speech at the session.

Other highlights include debates on the honouring of obligations and commitments by Azerbaijan. The report made by corapporteurs Pedro Agramunt and Joseph Debono Grech and “The follow-up to the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan” by Christoph Strässer will be discussed on January 23.
