Meeting held on arrest of Tofig Yagublu and Ilgar Mammadov

Baku. Etibar Mammadov – APA. The alliance “Azerbaijan without political prisoners” has held meeting on the arrest of deputy chairman of Musavat Tofig Yagublu and chairman of REAL Movement Ilgar Mammadov.

APA reports that addressing the meeting lawyer Ashabali Mustafayev said that the arrests were expected in the election year. According to him, it is high time to take concrete steps: “We must unite all socio-political forces in this issue. It needs to establish an organization and inform the Council of Europe and international organization about the arrests.”

Human rights activist Ogtay Gulaliyev said that they have already prepared an appeal to the Amnesty International. He said that other organizations will be also informed about the arrests and proposed to hold a forum with the participation of public representatives: “A common defense committee of the arrested persons must be established at the forum. We must unite and send a message to international organizations and the leadership to stop the arrests.”

Human rights defender Shahin Hasanli said campaign must be launched to collect signature on the political prisoners.
