APA reports that the action was organized by the Azerbaijani Associations of Latin America and chairman of this organization Natig Atakishiyev.
Atakishiyev informed about the life and activity of Heydar Aliyev and said that he played great role in the history of Azerbaijan, as well as the international cooperation and noted the importance of respecting his memory.
Atakishiyev told journalists that the Azerbaijanis living in Mexico and Latin America were deeply concerned over the recommendations made by three-member Advisory Committee established by the Mexico city authorities on Heydar Aliyev’s monument and the Khojaly memorial and noted that such steps could damage the cooperation relations in the future.
During the mass action held under the national flags of Azerbaijan and Turkey, several slogans were chanted: “Stop the insults! Respect to Azerbaijan”, “Respect for national symbols and tolerance,” “Embrard, respect the agreements you have signed,” “Respect for others' rights means peace.”
At the end of the protest, on the behalf of Azerbaijani Associations of Latin America and Azerbaijani community, Atakishiyev read the open letter sent to mayor of Mexico City Marcelo Ebrard and presented it to media representatives.
The Advisory Commission made a recommendation to the city authorities on the removal of the monument to Heydar Aliyev.
