APA’s Europe bureau reports that although Fatullayev regarded the discussion of resolution on political prisoners in Azerbaijan as positive, he said there were also political prisoners in the other member states: “The facts that such reports were not made on these countries surprised me. I came to the conclusion that actually, now there are approximately 30 alleged political prisoners in Azerbaijan. Christoph Strässer's report contains this list, because 45 persons were released by courts and under decrees of the President.”

Eynulla Fatullayev said that international organizations have recently politicized the issue on the protection of human rights.

"I think that this is inadmissible. Before Christoph Strässer 's report was released, 120 out of 150 persons considered political prisoners according to that list were released in Azerbaijan. Why is it needed to irritate the Azerbaijani government, update tension between the Council of Europe and the Azerbaijani government after adopting this resolution? Now the release of the rest 30 persons is necessary for us, I think that this should be achieved through cooperation. The adoption of the abovementioned resolution will certainly not have positve results. We know that all PACE resolutions and decisions are non-binding. Therefore, I objected to the resolution. I would support this initiative, if international organizations established special investigation groups, prepared reports on political prisoners in Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine and other countries and included their names into these lists. Mentioning only Azerbaijan means politicization of the issue on the protection of human rights," he said.
