Head of Presidential Administration: â€œBeing in the center of Eurasian geography Azerbaijan has become a platform of dialogue of the Eastern and Western civilizationsâ€

We have always actively participated in ensuring peace and security. The force potential of Azerbaijan, including its geographical position, military-economic capacity and political will enabled it to participate directly in defining world policy,” said Head of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev at the international conference “Azerbaijan 2020: Vision of the future”, APA reports.

He recalled the election of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on the 20th anniversary of its independence, with the support of three-quarters of the world countries: “Serving the ideals, which the UN is committed to, peace, security, democracy and justice, Azerbaijan has been involved in the solution of international issues. President Ilham Aliyev said while making a statement on the election of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council: “Azerbaijan is a reliable partner, Azerbaijan is a friendly country and increasing the number of our friends is the triumph of our policy.” Being in the center of Eurasian geography Azerbaijan has become a platform of dialogue of the Eastern and Western civilizations. Showing the importance of diversity in mankind such a dialogue promotes tolerance to diversity. At the same time, as a member of the Council of Europe and Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Azerbaijan is a state having great importance, which unites and develops both Western and Eastern values. This feature is derived from the ancient history of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan, which is located at the crossroads of East and West, has become a important factor in the development of political, economic and trade relations between the two regions. It is not accidental that, as example of tolerance, Azerbaijan is a place, where cultures, religious circles and literary trends unite. The strategy of integration into West developed and carried out by the national leader Heydar Aliyev enabled to restore our historical role, coordinate European values with national moral values and prepare solid bases for our future development.

With the view of protecting and improving Azerbaijan’s historical achievements, strengthening the country’s positions in the world responding to global and regional challenges, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the preparation of the Development Concept “Azerbaijan – 2020: vision of the future”. This document covers increase of competitiveness of Azerbaijan’s economy, improvement of transport, transit and logistics infrastructure, balanced development of the regions, transition to information society, development of human capital, formation of effective social protection system, continuation of institutional reforms, protection of cultural heritage and environment.

Ramiz Mehdiyev gave information about the essence of the draft concept.

“The draft concept writes that in terms of the realization of the targets, the strengthening of institutional potential will compromise three main directions: improvement of human resources in the public sector, enhancement of e-government activities and continuation of institutional reforms. The Azerbaijani state will continue creating favorable conditions for the lasting development of the civil society,” he said.
