Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. “If you look at the geographical position of Côte d'Ivoire, you can see that our country is located in an important position. Azerbaijan is a dynamically developing country. This country, which was a part of the Soviet Union yesterday, today supplies Europe with gas and oil and Europe may depend on it,” newly-appointed ambassador of Côte d'Ivoire Bernard Tanoh-Boutchoué told journalists, APA reports.
The ambassador noted that their diplomatic mission was located in Moscow, but they intended to open an embassy in Baku: “Our first embassy in the South Caucasus has been instituted in Azerbaijan. We are going to open our mission in Baku and expect Azerbaijan also to open its embassy in our country. This will pave the way for the further enhancement of the relations between our countries. Côte d'Ivoire along with 7 countries uses the same currency, it can enable Azerbaijan to trade with the other West African countries. Our country is also producing oil and gas, but our reserves are much lower than the reserves of Azerbaijan. Moreover, we want to send our students to study at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and departments on oil-gas.”
The ambassador also touched on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict: “We express our concern over this problem and our position is that the territorial integrity of every country must be protected. We want the parties to make an agreement without a war, because it is a very important issue.”
