Baku. Konul Jafarli – APA. “Azerbaijan will not lease Gabala radar station to any country,” said Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov, APA reports quoting Fars news agency.

The ambassador said that the local people were always concerned over the station that started operating during the USSR period: “The Gabala radar station’s exploitation has already been halted and we will not allow any country to use it. Gabala is the most ancient town of Azerbaijan and was a capital of Albania. It is also a touristic zone.”

Akhundov added that Azerbaijan has friendly relations with all neighboring countries except for Armenia:

“Iran has the right to use nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Azerbaijan’s position is clear on this issue. We do not interfere in the internal affairs of other states. At the same time we will not allow anybody to interfere in our home affairs.”

Ambassador also said that Azerbaijan is interested in cooperating with the Economic Cooperation Organization members.

“We especially want the railway to be improved, the railroad between the northern and southern regions of the ECO member states to be restored,” he said.
