Since Russia and other Caspian states have high expectations from this summit, that’s why this summit must be organized at a high-level. Russia is trying to do this. We and the other countries have also held consultations with Russia. We hope that we will closely approach to the solution of the issue, which will be acceptable for the sides,” Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told APA’s correspondent in Turkey.

Deputy Foreign Minister said the second important task lying ahead is to hold the next meeting of the Caspian states’ working groups with the view of determining the status of the Caspian Sea. Khalaf Khalafov said the next meeting on the level of deputy foreign ministers will be held in Ashgabat on December 17.

Asked what impedes the resolution of the problem, Deputy Foreign Minister said each

Caspian state has its interest, position.

“This issue has been discussed for 20 years. Therefore, it is impossible to solve the problems immediately. Despite this, we have done very important work through these discussions. Some Caspian states have achieved important agreements on the signing of the conventions. For example, Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan have reached agreements on the distribution of the Caspian Sea bed, ecological problems in the Caspian and a number of other issues. I believe that other states will also demonstrate positive position on the solution of the Caspian’s status through discussions,” he said.
