Today, the Global South NGO Platform held its first side event titled Uniting for a Just World: Strengthening South-South Solidarity and Partnerships for Equitable Climate Solutions as part of the 62nd session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SB62) in Bonn, APA reports.
Ramil Iskandarli, Chairman of the Board at Azerbaijan National NGO Forum, said that the participation of 47 NGO representatives and climate activists from 32 countries demonstrates the continuation of the "Baku Process" initiated by the Platform.
He emphasized the importance of the Platform as a technique of unification against global marginalization. Iskandarli also noted the symbolic significance of holding the Platform's first side event in Bonn — the global climate center — as a lasting contribution to COP29.
Panel discussions followed the opening.
Speakers praised Azerbaijan’s efforts in the COP29 process, especially its support for least developed and island states.
The session concluded with a focus on gender equality, which was highlighted as a key area for future cooperation.
A video showcasing the Platform’s founding conference was also presented. Foreign NGOs expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan’s NGO Support Agency for its strong partnership with the Global South NGO Platform.
