On July 10-11, a delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev, participated in the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Rome, the capital of Italy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
The current conference, which was the 4th of its kind, was attended by 56 countries, 27 international organizations and financial institutions, as well as 120 companies.
In his speech, Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev stated that the war in Ukraine has caused serious harm to peace and security in the region.
The speech emphasized that from the very first days, Azerbaijan has supported the diplomatic resolution of the conflict based on the norms and principles of international law, as well as Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It was noted with deep regret that the ongoing crisis has serious humanitarian consequences and stated Azerbaijan was among the first countries to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine, providing a total of 42 million US dollars in assistance, including medicines, food, electrical equipment, as well as support for recovery and reconstruction efforts.
It was reported that the number of children benefiting from Azerbaijan’s medical and socio-psychological rehabilitation program for children affected by the conflict in Ukraine has doubled since last year’s Recovery Conference, with a total of 330 children participating in the program to date.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that as a country combating mine threats in its recently liberated territories, Azerbaijan consistently supports strengthening solidarity with other countries affected by mines. Within this framework, Azerbaijan has provided assistance to Ukraine in the field of mine clearance and shared that relevant spare parts and training will soon be provided through ANAMA.
It was highlighted that Azerbaijan has supported projects aimed at rebuilding infrastructure in Ukraine. Specifically, the reconstruction of a school building, a city polyclinic, and a park in Irpin has been completed, and funding has been provided for the restoration of a park and a shelter for children in Kyiv. Additionally, relevant work is ongoing for the construction of four social facilities in Irpin.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine on a bilateral basis.
Within the framework of the conference, Yalçın Rəfiyev met with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha to discuss future plans regarding bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
The Deputy Minister also held a bilateral meeting with Italy’s Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Cirielli on July 11. During the meeting, issues arising from the multifaceted strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Italy were discussed. It was noted that Azerbaijan and Italy demonstrate exemplary cooperation, with satisfaction expressed over the growing development of political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian relations.
