Azerbaijan has provided more than 350 million US dollars in aid to developing countries over the past 5 years, said Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov at the UN’s 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, APA reports.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted to conference participants that despite the significant financial burden on the Azerbaijani government related to the reconstruction of liberated territories, the country continues to play an active role in international development assistance.
S. Sharifov emphasized that climate finance has become an important element of sustainable development.
He noted that Azerbaijan is also making a global contribution in this element of sustainable development. Thus, at the global climate conference (COP29) held in Baku under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship, the adoption of a new financial target known as the Baku Finance Goal to achieve the “2030 Sustainable Development Agenda,” and the tripling of financial aid allocated by developing countries to meet mitigation and adaptation needs related to climate change is of global significance.
