Azerbaijan’s strategic partnership with a global power like China is a historic milestone not only bilaterally, but also regionally, said Soltan Mammadov, head of the Azerbaijan–China Interparliamentary Relations Working Group, during today's session of the Milli Majlis, APA reports.
The MP emphasized that the foreign policy course set by President Ilham Aliyev has ensured the strengthening of Azerbaijan's position within the international system: “This policy not only aims to further reinforce existing partnerships but also to establish new cooperative relations. Azerbaijan, a country with decisive influence on economic and political processes in the South Caucasus, forming a strategic partnership with a global power like China is a historic development—not merely in terms of bilateral ties, but also in the broader regional context. On June 10, our head of state approved the ‘Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the People's Republic of China on the Mutual Exemption from Visa Requirements for Holders of Ordinary Passports’. The mutual visa exemption for citizens of both countries demonstrates the high level of mutual trust underpinning bilateral relations. While this agreement has political significance, it also serves as a stimulus for increasing the number of Chinese tourists visiting Azerbaijan and will contribute significantly to the expansion of economic cooperation.”
Soltan Mammadov also noted that the broad scope of bilateral relations includes cooperation in the humanitarian sphere: “Under the leadership of Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation has implemented successful projects that foster deeper ties in cultural, humanitarian, and other fields. During the Azerbaijani delegation’s visit to China in June, future joint projects between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Chinese People’s Association were discussed. Publications about Azerbaijan were presented to Beijing Foreign Studies University. The primary goal of such mutual visits is to stimulate the development of bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation. At the same time, important steps are being taken to deepen interparliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and China. All of this demonstrates that Azerbaijan and China are two friendly nations actively engaged in cooperation across various sectors. In today’s rapidly changing global order, the continued strengthening of these ties contributes to peace, security, and economic prosperity in our region.”
