Norwegian Ambassador Jon Ramberg visited the child. The child’s father Nasrullah Elyasi expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for assistance. The child was born in Damiyan city of Afghanistan and had serious problems in his heart, the doctors said the surgery was inevitable.
Nasrullah Elyasi has been settled in Azerbaijan as a refugee and he appealed to UNHCR office in Baku and the office asked assistance from the Norwegian Embassy. Norwegian Ambassador said that he made decision on assisting the refugee child at once.
“I am very glad that we could help Elyas, but I become sad when thinking that thousands of Afghans need assistance. I was ambassador to Pakistan before, there were three million refugee children in this country that time,” he said.
Press service head of UNHCR office in Baku Sahib Mammadov told the APA, Elyas Elyasi’s condition was very critical, and the organization appealed for assisting him.
“Norwegian Embassy, International Monetary Fund permanent representation in Azerbaijan positively replied to our appeal, and we express our gratitude to them for rendering assistance to save the child’s life,” he said. /APA/
