Azerbaijani Consul General makes speech at Los Angeles synagogue

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. “Tolerance and openness are major principles and centuries-long traditions of Azerbaijani society,” Azerbaijani Consul General to Los Angeles Elin Suleymanov said while making a speech at the University Synagogue.

The diplomat gave information about multiculturalism and ancient traditions of tolerance of Azerbaijani society. He underlined good relations between Azerbaijanis and Jews, as well as Azerbaijan and Israel, spoke about the contributions of Azerbaijan’s Jewish community to the country’s development, conditions created by the Azerbaijani government for the protection of the Jewish culture and education.

Elin Suleymanov said Muslims and Jews, who believe in the one Supreme Being, have much in common. Consul General said friendship established on mutual respect between the religious communities in Azerbaijan proves this and therefore radicalism, religious and ethnic discrimination are inadmissible in the 21st century. The diplomat said that sometimes double standard approach is observed in Washington’s policy and expressed his hope that strategic approach will be strengthened in the US’ policy on Eurasia.

Rabbi Morley Feinstein expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for attention to the Jewish community, spoke about the rich history of the Jews living in Azerbaijan and the country’s geopolitical importance.
