Mubariz Ahmadoglu: The visit of two Deputy Secretaries of State to the region prior to the Sochi meeting of the presidents may be connected with the attempts to take the initiative

Maybe this is an unexampled mission,â€ head of the Center for Political Innovations and Technologies, political analyst Mubariz Ahmadoglu said, APA reports. He said that the collection of several factors may cause this.
â€œMaybe Serzh Sargsyan confused the position of the US by saying something to Philip Gordon on behalf of Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, or visa versa. Therefore, the US administration sends Deputy Secretaries of State to the region,â€ he said.

According to Mubariz Ahmadoglu, another factor is to give guarantees to Serzh Sargsyan for staying in power.
â€œIt is obvious that protests will begin in Armenia against Serzh Sargsyan if he signs the document on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigori Karasin gave guarantee to Serzh Sargsyan for staying in power. Now the US is continuing this mission. The simultaneous visit of two Deputy Secretaries of State to the region may also have other meaning. The West understands that Russia is not so strong in CIS. Armeniaâ€™s behavior and neutralizing Russia in Nagorno Karabakh problem discredited the staunchness of the Russian power. Recently the West is seen to increase pressure upon the Russian interests. It supports Japan in the problem of Kuril Islands while it couldnâ€™t do it even during the period of weakness of Russia. The West activated its policy toward Ukraine and it intended to press Russian interests on the Black Sea.

It seems two US deputy secretaries arrive in the region at the same time to learn how weak Russia becomes and how Armenia resists to Russia. Perhaps they will make decision to increase pressure upon Russiaâ€.

The political analyst noted that Iranian presidentâ€™s address to the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents inviting them to Tehran to discuss the Nagorno Karabakh problem is one of the main factors forcing the two deputy secretaries to visit the region. â€œUS is always negatively react to the Iranâ€™s participation and initiative on the regional issues. Russia also thinks so. Iran intends to join the solution process of the Nagorno Karabakh problem now. If Iran wants it can solve the Nagorno Karabakh problem, which the mediators couldnâ€™t or donâ€™t intend to solve in 20 years, in 20 hours. But it will be shame for US and Russiaâ€.
