 Turkish parliament’s commission confirms “Treaty between Azerbaijan and Turkey on strategic partnership and mutual assistance”

The treaty was confirmed at the autumn session of the Turkish parliament.

The treaty was signed by presidents Ilham Aliyev and Abdullah Gul in Baku in August, 2010. Azerbaijani parliament ratified the treaty in December, 2010.

The document comprises “Military-political and security issues”, “Military and military-technical cooperation issues”, “Issues of economic cooperation”, “Humanitarian issues” and “Common and final clauses”.

According to the treaty covering ten-year period, in case one of the states undergoes armed attack or military aggression by a third state or a group of states, the parties will assist each other also using military potential for realization of the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence envisaged in article 51 of the UN Charter. The parties also agree on cooperation in providing defence products and logistic means for defence needs and security, producing defence products, offering defence services, holding joint military exercises and events on defence training, training specialists for armed forces, supporting the activity of the armed forces, also in military medicine and healthcare.
