Azerbaijani embassy in Egypt: We keep watch on situation of our citizens here

Probably Egypt will hold presidential elections next two months”, first secretary of the Azerbaijani embassy in Egypt Elnur Ismayilov told APA.

Ismayilov said millions of people celebrated the Mubarak’s resignation in Tahrir Square overnight.

The diplomat said mass unrests calmed down now. He said the embassy’s hotline still operates, but no calls were registered in the past two-three days.

“We keep watch on the situation of our citizens here and have continuous communication with three Azerbaijani students in Cairo”, said the diplomat.

The protest actions in Egypt began on January 25. At least 300 were killed and more than 5000 injured in the unrests. Employee of Azerbaijani embassy in Cairo Nijat Gojayev was shot dead during the unrests.

According to the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev, evacuation of Azerbaijani citizens by special air flight was started on January 30. 171 Azerbaijani citizens have been evacuated from Egypt so far.
