Speaking about the history of the problem, the diplomat said India had been British colony for more than 100 years. In 1947 while leaving India Britain passed a decision to divide Kashmir into two – Indian-populated area under the administration of India, Muslim-populated area under the administration of Pakistan.
“India occupied Kashmir, where Muslims constituted 87 percent of the total population, 2 million people became refugees, 1.5 million settled in Pakistan, the rest in various countries of the world,” he said.
Ambassador said according to the resolution of the UN Security Council the people of Kashmir must determine its fate through referendum.
“Six more resolutions were adopted after that, but neither the referendum has been held, nor the problem solved,” he said.

Speaking about Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations the diplomat said the relations are on the highest level.
“Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan’s independence. When the UN Security Council passed the first resolution on Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Pakistan as the temporary member of the Security Council chaired this structure and not only supported Azerbaijan, but also lobbied in the adoption of the document,” he said.
