Co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee hold press conference regarding results of their visit to Azerbaijan

According to APA, they reported that their goal was to gather information in the framework of Monitoring Committee for to prepare a neutral and objective report on Azerbaijan.

"Our goal is to prepare a neutral and objective report on Azerbaijan. We have no any biases. We had fruitful meetings during the three-day visit. We want to help Azerbaijan as a member of the Council of Europe, to observe all the obligations undertaken 10 years ago, when the country joined the organization. At present we are getting familiarized with opinions of sides for to prepare reportâ€, - PACE co-rapporteur Pedro Agramunt told.

Note that the previous report of the Co-rapporteurs of the PACE on Azerbaijan’s fulfillment of obligations before the CoE was published in 2005.

Pedro Agramunt also commented on the refusal of some opposition parties to meet with them: "I think that the refusal of the Musavat and the Popular Front Party to meet with us is not very fair, because the dialogue is necessary. This is the second time they refused to meet with us. The first refusal was during my visit to Azerbaijan as part of the preliminary observation mission of the Council of Europe. They explained that this is their strategyâ€,- Pedro Agramunt emphasized.

Note that Co-rapporteurs of the PACE came to Baku on 1 February. During the visit the co-rapporteurs met with Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov, Minister of Justice and Minister of National Security, Prosecutor General, the Chairman of the Supreme Court, the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE, Chairman of the CEC, representatives of political parties, the Ombudsman, representatives of local NGOs and media outlets, representatives local organizations in Sumgayit city.

Co-rapporteurs also met with Eynulla Fatullayev who is under arrest and his father.
