Turkish-Armenian friendship monument to be demolished in March

The municipality head said that this work was scheduled to start in March: â€œWe would not have been interested if the monument had been in the other placeâ€.

Bozkush noted that the tender would be issued for removal of the monument.
The winner company will remove the monument: â€œThe crane will keep the monument in order not to damage the other monuments and the graveyard. The tool will cut it. In this way we will divide the monument into parts and take away from there. If the sculpture wants to take this monument and erect it in the other place, we can give them the divided partsâ€.

He said that the work on the monument removal was done within a law.

The monument called â€œMonument of Mankindâ€ and dedicated to the Turkish-Armenian friendship was started to be built in 2008. Its construction has not been completed yet. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told municipality and other officials during his visit to Kars that all strange constructions contradicting the historic-architectural styles should be removed. He called it as â€œugly monumentâ€. Kars Municipality made decision on removal of the monument on February 1.
