Ministry of National Security reacts to US and British terror alert

Baku. Victoria Dementieva, Lachin Sultanmova – APA. The United States and Britain issued warning notices alerting their citizens about the terror threat in Azerbaijan. According to APA, the US State Department on January 29 issued a notice alerting United States citizens to be aware of the potential for attacks in Azerbaijan, including against American interests: «The State Department, based on terrorist threat information, alerts U.S. citizens of the potential for attacks in Azerbaijan, including against American interests. U.S citizens in Azerbaijan should remain vigilant, particularly in public places associated with the Western community. In addition, U.S. citizens should remain aware of their surroundings, be vigilant about their personal security, maintain an unpredictable daily schedule, and vary the routes used to travel to and from their places of work and residence.”

British Foreign Office also issued similar notice calling on their citizens in Azerbaijan to be vigilant.

US Embassy spokesperson Keith Bean told APA that the State Department alerted the US citizens, but he didn’t make additional comments: “As a matter of policy, we do not comment about the nature of the threat or the source of the information”.

Reacting to the US and British warning notices, Public Relations Officer of the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of National Security Arif Babayev told APA they are taking necessary preventive measures against possible threats to the national security and interests of the Republic of Azerbaijan: “This is permanent process. Relevant organizations of our country, including the Ministry of National Security, control the operational situation”.
