Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister: “Unsettled conflicts create more threats to the region”

The ministers held a briefing after the meeting, APA Georgian bureau reports.

Mammadyarov said they discussed a number of important issues at the meeting. “We informed each other about the current situation of the settlement of the conflicts in the territories of both countries”.

The minister said regional security issues were also on their agenda. “We have to attach more attention to the regional security now because unsettled conflicts create more threats to the region. We discussed bilateral relations as well. The two countries have high-level relations and we have to strengthen relations in the fields of energy, industry and infrastructure. We also consider extension of humanitarian relations”.

The minister said construction of the Akhalkalaki-Kars railway would be finished at the scheduled time and intensive work is done there now.

In his turn, Grigol Vashadze said Azerbaijan-Georgian cooperation would be deepened further.

Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov is on an official visit to Georgia. Azerbaijani delegation visited Memorial of Heroes killed in the battles for the territorial integrity of Georgia and Heydar Aliyev’s memorial in Tbilisi.

Mammadyarov will also visit Marneuli region of Georgia populated with a large Azerbaijani community.

Azerbaijani minister is scheduled to meet with Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri and President Mikheil Saakashvili.
