Baku hosts conference “Azerbaijan in Euro-Atlantic space: integration priorities and realities”

According to APA, the conference was organized by the Azerbaijan Euro-Integration National Public Committee (AAMIK), Azerbaijan Public Association for Security and Defense (ATMIA) and Romanian embassy in Azerbaijan.

ATMIA president Yashar Jafarli said the conference aimed to discuss Azerbaijan’s integration into the Euro-Atlantic space and to hear proposals on this issue. The proposals will be described in the document prepared at the conference.

Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikolae Ureche noted that Euro-Atlantic is a democratic society. “We support the freedom, but some countries can’t enjoy with this freedom. We are working to establish peace over the world”.

The ambassador said his country was continuing cooperation with NATO and US and was one of the NATO’s quick forces.

The diplomat said Romanian embassy would be NATO’s coordinator in Azerbaijan for two years more. He said Romania received NATO mandate for coordination until 2013.

EU permanent representative in Azerbaijan Roland Kobia spoke about the EU-NATO relations, EU’s role in establishing peace in the region.

The conference heard reports “Contribution by new architecture of EU security”, “EU-NATO cooperation: constantly strengthened partnership”, “Romania and Euro-Atlantic integration”, “Azerbaijan-EU, Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation: priorities and realities”, “Euro-Atlantic space and Azerbaijan’s security priorities”.
