Baku to host roundtable for prevention and reduction of statelessness

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. UNHCR and the Council of Europe together with the government of Azerbaijan will organize a roundtable in Baku for prevention of statelessness, which will focus on reduction of the number of stateless persons and their protection.

The roundtable will continue debates over the fulfillment of the citizenship law of the Republic of Azerbaijan, reasons of the statelessness in the country, as well as measures for its prevention. It will be development of joint events dedicated to the legislation, experience and international agreements in 2005-2009.

Representatives of relevant ministries and other government agencies will attend the roundtable. UNHCR representative in Azerbaijan Arun Sala-Ngarm, representative of the Council of Europe Secretary General in Azerbaijan Veronika Kotek, as well as officials of the State Migration Service and Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan will also participate at the event.
