Director of the Russian Drug Control Service Victor Ivanov said the Caspian littoral states needed to unite efforts for combating illicit drug traffic in the region.

He also reported about the cooperation with the Azerbaijani law-enforcement agencies in this field. â€œWithin the framework of cooperation with the Azerbaijani law-enforcement agencies, 28 drug traffickers were arrested and more than 800 kg hashish and opium were confiscated last yearâ€.

Victor Ivanov proposed to establish Caspian anti-Drug Five, a regional international organization permanently working to make the Caspian region free from drug transit. â€œThe organization will aim to elaborate and implement united ant-drug policy and to realize the initiative â€œCaspian Sea is free from Afghan drug transitâ€â€.

A final protocol was signed at the meeting. Victor Ivanov said the second meeting on this issue would be held in one of the Caspian littoral states in the first half of 2011.

An expert group was established at the meeting for founding the Caspian Anti-Drug Center and Caspian Operative Group.
