Coalition of Liberal Groups Gather in Washington

Baku-APA. A coalition of labor and civil rights groups has gathered supporters in Washington for a rally to call attention to a variety of causes and counter recent conservative events, APA reports quoting voanews.com website.

Thousands of people, carrying signs and cheering, marched around the U.S. capital and on the national mall Saturday en route to the Lincoln Memorial, where the â€œOne Nation Working Togetherâ€ rally, is being held.

Organizers say the event represents a broad cross-section of people of all ages, races, and religions. They insist the gathering is non-partisan, though organizers represent traditionally liberal causes such as the environment, labor and gay rights.

The conservative Tea Party Movement held rallies in a number of U.S. cities early last month, promising to galvanize opposition to Democratic policies and mobilize a surge of voters in pivotal congressional elections next month.

In August, conservative commentator Glen Beck held a massive rally at the Lincoln Memorial that he called a â€œRestoring Honorâ€ event.

That rally was primarily about religious faith and focused on paying tribute to American military personnel.
