NATO-Azerbaijan consultations held in Brussels

The deputy ministers of National Security and Emergency Situations, deputy chief of the State Border Service, department heads of the ministries of Defense and Internal Affairs were in the delegation, press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.

Mammadyarov held a bilateral meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bizoniero and attended the North Atlantic Council “28+1” meeting. Mammadyarov mentioned the new NATO Strategic Concept, Azerbaijan-NATO partnership, including fulfillment of Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), as well as solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Azerbaijan-NATO relations, security reforms in Azerbaijan, operational coordination between the armed forces and NATO, regional security, as well as Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict were discussed at the meeting.

NATO upcoming summit in Lisbon and effect of the new strategic concept expected to be adopted during this summit on the Euro-Atlantic security, ISAF (International Security Assistance Forces) operations in Afghanistan and Azerbaijan’s contribution to these operations were also in the focus of attention.

Azerbaijan and NATO hold such consultations once a year and IPAP’s second phase in 2008-2010 is realized currently.
