Azerbaijan and Switzerland hold political consultations

The sides exchanged views on the political, economic, commercial, cultural, humanitarian relations between the two countries, expressed their satisfaction with the present level of the political dialogue and relations between the states.

Sharing the view that there was large potential for economic cooperation, deputy ministers highly appreciated the activity of Swiss companies in Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector. Much attention was paid to the expansion of the energy cooperation.

A number of Swiss companies are operating in Azerbaijan. Peter Maurer invited the Azerbaijani companies to make investments in Switzerland.

The sides discussed the situation in the region, international issues of mutual interest, exchanged views on the resolution of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.

Khalafov invited Maurer to Azerbaijan for holding next round of consultations. The Secretary of State agreed to visit Azerbaijan in 2011.

Within the framework of the visit Khalafov met with newly elected Vice-President of Swiss Confederation, Foreign Minister, Mrs. Micheline Calmy-Rey.

Contentment on development dynamics of relations between the two countries, satisfaction for political dialogue conducted at the high level was expressed and importance of continuation of activities in this direction was noted at the meeting. At the same time, existing situation in the region and development perspectives of relations between our states were discussed widely.

Mrs. Minister noted significant role of Azerbaijan in the region and called it an important partner.

Speaking about Armenian aggression towards Azerbaijan and its serious results Khalafov said that durable peace and stability was impossible without restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
