The ruins of Ani are situated in the territory of Ocakli village of Kars province, 45 km from the city of Kars on borders with Armenia. MHP leader Devlet Bahceli and activists from 40 local organizations will attend the Friday Namaz in Ani.
Chairman of the MHP Kars organization Oktay Aktash said preparations in the mosque would be completed on Thursday. “Sultan Alp Arslan conquered Ani on August 16, 1064 and four days later he lowered Cathedral’s rood and performed first Friday Namaz there. 946 years later we will perform Friday Namaz in Ani againâ€.
Guests from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan will also attend the Friday Namaz together with the MHP activists.
Armenians claim that Ani was an ancient Armenian city.
