Russian political analyst: â€œRussia, Turkey and Iran are only constructive platform for solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflictâ€

Victoria Dementieva â€“ APA. â€œRussia, Turkey and Iran â€“ this is only constructive platform for solution to all problems of the South Caucasus, including Nagorno Karabakh conflictâ€, Russian expert on political conflicts, analyst of the Channel One Maxim Shevchenko told journalists from the South Caucasus, APA correspondent reports from Moscow. In his opinion, the President Medvedevâ€™s Moscow platform and efforts to establish direct talks between the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders are very important. â€œIt is not correct to take into consideration only the interests of the global players, who consider the region and the people living there as a â€œpawnâ€ on the chess board. Russia, Iran and Turkey have direct interests in this regionâ€.

The political analyst said the United States had no great interest in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and its goal was to create â€œuncontrolled chaosâ€ in the region.

Regarding the effective activity as the OSCE Minsk Group mediator, the analyst considers that the group should prevent military confrontation between the sides. â€œThe main duty of the OSCE Minsk Group is to form a platform to prevent military operations. Despite skirmishes in the contact line between the troops, peace process remains as the main format of the conflict settlement. I consider that the main goal of all subjects involved in the conflict is to prevent the military operations. Because each military solution will involve Caucasus in terrible ethnic conflicts and there will not be any other way outâ€.

Assessing common situation in the region Maksim Shevchenko noted that the state around Iran had become aggravated and Russia used groundless tough sanctions against this country: â€œThe situation around Iran intensified the state in the region. Application of sanctions against Iran is a direct way to the war. I do not welcome Russiaâ€™s sanctions against Iran. It is my own position. On the other hand, Russia gives military complexes to Azerbaijan and Armenia, and it creates danger illusion in Iran from direction of Caucasus. Iran no longer considers this region as one of the regions that may damage to its territory. Russiaâ€™s sanctions against Iran are tougher than EUâ€™s sanctionsâ€.

Shevchenko said that Azerbaijan and Armenia were main tools in hands of global powers to start the global war in the region: â€œThis factor increases the importance of straight relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia for prevention military solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflictâ€.

Politic analyst took a stance on regulation of Turkey-Armenia relations as well: â€œConcrete decision has not been made in the process which continues two years by now. It should be so. Because, Turkey will not estrange Azerbaijanâ€™s defense positionâ€.
