This is a trick. Armenia uses snipers more,” spokesman for Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-Colonel Eldar Sabiroglu said.

Answering APA’s question about UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s statement on the withdrawal of snipers from the contact line, Eldar Sabiroglu said:
“Let’s see whether by withdrawing the snipers the aggressor will give up its unfair claims, or release the Azerbaijani territories. This is the major problem. Suppose that this proposal is realized and snipers are withdrawn from the contact line. Does it mean that the shots from other weapons will not be heard? Within the past one month the Armenian servicemen have fired on the opposite positions of the contact line by machine and submachine guns, grenade throwers. These weapons were even used against the civilians. So, first of all Armenia must give up its aggressive policy and fulfill the resolutions and decisions of the UN and other international organizations. The UN has four resolutions about it. Which of them has been fulfilled? Armenia continues to be indifferent. Measures should be taken so that the decisions and resolutions do not remain as a piece of paper in the minds of people. In order to eliminate the threat of war the causes that created Nagorno Karabakh problem must be removed. This is clear to the UN, OSCE Minsk Group and interested states. It is not right to attribute the strengthening of the ceasefire regime to the withdrawal of the snipers,” he said.

After meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued a statement on the withdrawal of snipers from the contact line and said it would strengthen the ceasefire regime.
