Azerbaijan sends letter to UN Secretary General and General Assembly concerning Armenia’s military violence against our country
# 19 August 2010 09:43 (UTC +04:00)
The letter, signed by Chargé d’affaires a.i. Tofig Musayev, describes a recent violence by Armenian troops on Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.

As a matter of fact, the letter talks about a following incident.

According to Armenian’s Defense Ministry and media reports, “28 July 2010 an incident involving the use of firearms and resulting in casualties took place in one of the military units of the armed forces of Armenia deployed in the occupied Khojavand district of Azerbaijan. It has been reported that a senior lieutenant (Vardges Tatevosyan from Yerevan, Armenia) and five conscripts (Garegin Hovsepyan from Etchmiatzin, Armenia, Andranik Sargsyan from Yerevan, Armenia, Robert Hovhannisyan from Vanadzor, Armenia, Artyom Minasyan from Charentsavan, Armenia, and Karo Ayvazyan from Yerevan, Armenia), all citizens and residents of Armenia who were sent to serve in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan as part of their military service, were killed as a result of violence and exchange of fire between Armenian militaries”, the letter says.

Mr. Musayev also raised a similar case dated July 16.

Saying that these two incidents are just a drop in the sea, Musayev said that they “demonstrate clearly that, despite attempts of official Yerevan to disguise the direct involvement of the armed forces of Armenia in the military hostilities against Azerbaijan and the presence of these forces within the latter’s occupied areas, Armenia exercises in practice effective military control of these territories.”

The Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan in the UN recalls that the UN itself and many other international bodies, such as European parliament, have proclaimed Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and this is a major reason to amplify the illegality of Armenia’s activities.

Musayev also says that the fact of Armenian occupation is recognized by the whole world.

He asked the UN General Assembly to accept this letter under items 14 and 18 of the UN GA agenda which are about Nagorno-Karabakh and the GUAM countries.

The UN information centre said that the letter was already accepted by the UN Secretary-General office and added to the GA next session agenda as a document for consideration.

The letter was also circulated among the UN national delegations.
