Ziyafet Asgarov meets with Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Mrs. Celeste Wallander

Baku - APA. First Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijani Parliament, Security and Defense Committee Chairman Ziyafet Asgarov met with Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Mrs. Celeste Wallander who was on a visit to our country, press service of the parliament told APA. Asgarov said he was glad to meet the guests at Azerbaijanâ€™s Parliament. Noting that relations between Azerbaijan and US had stepped into new period, first vice-speaker reminded U.S Secretary of State Hillary Clintonâ€™s and Defense Minister Robert Gatesâ€™ visits and noted the importance of those visits. Speaking about Nagorno Karabakh conflict Asgarov said that 20 percent of Azerbaijan was still being kept under the Armenian occupation, more than 1 million citizens were driven out of their native lands.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Mrs. Celeste Wallander thanked for sincere meeting and detailed information. She noted that US was strategic partner with Azerbaijan. She noted that they knew the importance of the regulation of Nagorno Karabakh conflict for Azerbaijan. Wallander said US was ready to help in just settlement of the conflict. The guest spoke about significance of strengthening the cooperation in the sphere of military education and practice between the two countries.

Views were exchanged on bilateral relations, interparliamental cooperation, development of economic relations, struggle against terrorism and several other issues of mutual interest.
