The co-chairs noted that the statement issued by the leaders of the co-chairing countries in Canada stressed the importance of peaceful solution to the conflict: â€œThe presidents expressed satisfaction with small progress achieved and called the parties to continue seeking the ways of peaceful settlement of the conflict. We have been entrusted with the task of overcoming difficulties on the way towards finding peaceful solution to the conflict. The presidents instructed mediators to continue to provide active assistance to Armenia and Azerbaijan in overcoming differences in preparation for a joint meeting at the informal OSCE ministerial forum in Almaty.

Russian Co-Chair Igor Popov stated that recent ceasefire violations and casualties on the contact line were discussed as well: â€œSuch incidents may damage the peace talks and serious measures should be taken to prevent such cases in the futureâ€. Popov noted that this issue would also be discussed with Azerbaijani political and military authorities.

Note that the co-chairs are in Yerevan at present. They will have meetings with Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan and foreign minister Edward Nalbandian.
