Peter Semneby: â€œI am sure that being OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair, US will use the Secretary of Stateâ€™s visit to advance negotiation processâ€

The diplomat noted that regulation of Nagorno Karabakh conflict would be in the focus of attention at the meetings to be held by Hillary Clinton in Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Speaking about the forthcoming parliamentary elections, Semneby said that it was important to use the existing laws for holding fair and just elections. Touching upon the EUâ€™s help in returning of the dead body of Azerbaijani serviceman killed during the ceasefire violation took place on the contact line, Semneby said that ICRC was engaged in this issue: â€œEU does not have such opportunities, we can only be interested in itâ€.

Assessing EUâ€™s help in the process of solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict Semneby noted that EU could play more active role in this issue due to deepening of relations with regional countries: â€œBut EU cannot substitute OSCE Minsk Group. It may only support this institution. I think that works must be done for creating mutual trust on both sides. May be we can do anything in this issue. And there will be more expectations from us while approaching the regulation and we will take them into considerationâ€.
