He mentioned that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko had said to what projects and programs the country would pay attention during its chairmanship.
“These are the spheres of energy, trade, transit and tourism,” he said.

Noting that GUAM had great potential Chechelashvili said about 40 projects were being implemented in various spheres.
“Among them I would note projects on free trade zone, struggle against organized crimes, transport transit corridor in GUAM area and a number of energy projects. The interest in cooperation with the organization is increasing,” he said.

To the question “Can we expect the partners of the organization Japan, US, Poland and Czech Republic to be admitted to the organization in capacity of observers?” Secretary General said the current statuses of those countries were higher than the status of the observer.
“Observer only follows the process and make conclusions and recommendations. But the partners are actively cooperating with us and even allocating budget for the development of the cooperation programs within GUAM format. Our priority in cooperating with the US concerns struggle against all kinds of organized crimes. We are grateful to the U.S. government for giving technical assistance of $200,000 to form GUAM Secretariat. Our Japanese partners have allocated budget for the development of tourism potential and project on alternative energy. I am very glad that they are not simply observers, but our stable and reliable partners,” he said.
