Conference on developing US strategy in the South Caucasus and Caspian basin and Nagorno-Karabakh peace process to be held in Washington

The conference will be held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies with the participation of prominent US experts and a number of representatives from the region of South Caucasus, as well as Azerbaijan.

On Azerbaijani side Mr. Asim Mollazade from the Democratic Reforms Party of Azerbaijan will talk about the perspective from Azerbaijan on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

From the South Caucasus there will be also representatives of Georgia and Armenia - Ghia Nodia from the Ilia State University, talking about Georgian Threat Perceptions and Asbed Kotchikian from Bentley University talking about Practical Ways in Solving the Azerbaijan-Armenia Dispute.

The main panel discussions will be held on unresolved conflicts and rising instabilities as well as US strategies and interests in the region.

A number of prominent US experts will prepare reports for the discussion, such as Ariel Cohen from the Heritage Foundation, Frederic Starr from SAIS, Tunjay Babaly from Harvard University’s Turkey desk, Janush Bugajski from CSIS, Svante Cornell from SAIS, Stephen Blank from US army War College, Steve Levine from Business Week, Colonel Jon Chicky from NDU, Margarita Assenova from IND.

In other news, another event concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be held at the San-Jose Peace and Justice Center June 24. A lecture will be held there by Mr. Parvin Akhanchi, an ethnic Azerbaijani from the region of Nagorno-Karabakh, APA was told at the Azerbaijani Dispora.
Akhanchi’s lecture is going to be focused on the 20 years of occupation and ethnic cleansing conducted by Armenians.

Parvin Ahanchi received doctoral degree in history from M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1993. She is a Leading Researcher at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences - Institutes of History and Archaeology and Ethnography.

During the 2008-2009 academic year Dr.Ahanchi was a Fulbright scholar and Honorary Fellow in the Central Asian Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of California-Davis.
