Mikhail Margelov: â€œRelations with Azerbaijan are among our foreign policy and economic prioritiesâ€

He said cooperation was successfully developed in the field of hydrocarbon resources. â€œSeries of joint cultural events are planned to be held next year. Russian-Azerbaijani relations will be developed in all spheresâ€.

Regarding the Russiaâ€™s role in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Margelov considers that it is important for Russia to support the settlement of â€œfrozenâ€ conflicts in the post-soviet space. â€œIt needs not to allow the tragedy happened in Georgia last August to be repeated. We have to make steps toward both Azerbaijan and Armenia because international organizations, for example OSCE, can not do effective work in establishing of bridges between these two countriesâ€.

Margelov reminded that Nagorno Karabakh conflict is in â€œfrozenâ€ state for 20 years and called it nonsense. He said the conflict couldnâ€™t be transferred to the next generations and it should be solved now. â€œWe believe in wisdom of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders. Russia will do everything for the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict in near future. We will support this process via inter-parliamentarian dialogue and dialogues between the civil societies, as well as in the format of international organizationsâ€.
