Lord Mayor of the City of London Ian Luder to visit Azerbaijan

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. Alderman Ian Luder, Lord Mayor of the City of London will pay a visit to Azerbaijan from 18 - 22 July 2009. His visit to Azerbaijan will be a part of a regional tour, which also includes Kazakhstan, British Embassy in Baku told APA.
The Lord Mayor, the elected ambassador for the UK-based financial services industry, will be accompanied by representatives of 14 British companies leading in different spheres of the finance sector. During his visit to the country the Lord Mayor is expected to meet with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan HE Mr. Ilham Aliyev as well as with the Ministers of Finance, Economic Development and Information Technology and Communication. The Lord Mayor’s other appointments will include meetings with the Governor of Central Bank and the Chairman of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, as well as representatives of leading local banks.

The Lord Mayor met the Azerbaijani President during HE Ilham Aliyev’s recent visit to London.

The Lord Mayor hopes to use his forthcoming visit to forge closer trade relations between Azerbaijan and the UK in the non-energy sector. He said: "The City of London is international, a gateway to Europe and beyond, and we want to work more closely with Azerbaijan. We have strengths in Banking, Asset Management, Insurance, PPP, Maritime, Legal and Business services. The City is internationally owned, managed and staffed; many firms utilise London as a gateway to Europe and beyond; we welcome companies from Azerbaijan to London."
