I believe that only Baku and Yerevan have a key to the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and it doesn’t need to seek it in the capitals of other countries”, Vladimir Jarikhin, Associate Director of CIS Institute, told APA correspondent in Moscow. “If we accept only peaceful solution to the conflict, both parties have to understand that they must make serious concessions to achieve peace. Certainly such concessions will not welcomed by the public communities of both countries. They will think that concession leads to the defeat. But it is impossible to achieve peace without that. If the parties to the conflict protect only their interests and try to solve the problem not making the concessions, they will not achieve anything”.

The political scientist considers that Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders should demonstrate political will to make such unpopular decisions. “Six meetings of the leaders a year show that there is such potential and the leaders are ready to make vital decisions, but unpopular for their countries. The Moscow meeting will be next step in the process of settlement and no final document will be signed there”.

Vladimir Jarikhin said if the parties intended to solve the status issue first, so they were not ready for compromise. “German foreign minister Steinmeier submitted the roadmap for solution of Abkhazian problem and the status issue took the last place among the 11 issues described in his plan. If the parties don’t understand that the status issue should be an end of the peace process, discords will not be solved”.
